Former U.S. President **Donald Trump** has announced a new round of tariffs of up to **30%** on imports from **five countries**, including **Algeria, Libya, and Iraq**, as well as **the Philippines and Moldova**, according to official letters sent to the leaders of these nations.
The new tariffs are set to take effect on **August 1**, unless new trade agreements are reached beforehand. The move is part of Trump’s broader push for **"reciprocal tariffs"**, first introduced in **April**, aimed at addressing what he describes as unfair trade imbalances.
In a cabinet meeting, Trump said:
> “The message means: let’s make a deal. But some countries don’t see it that way,”
> arguing that the **U.S. trade deficit** with these countries is unacceptable, and that the tariffs are a response to policies that he claims **obstruct U.S. exports**.
Trump also urged foreign leaders to **move their manufacturing to the United States** to avoid the duties. He warned that if those countries retaliate with higher tariffs on American goods, he would escalate U.S. tariffs in return.
This latest move could increase tensions between Washington and the affected countries, particularly the **oil-exporting Arab states**, which play a significant role in the global energy market.
