Israeli Official Warns Against U.S. F-35 Sale to Turkey: "A Regional Threat

A senior Israeli official has issued a stark warning regarding the potential sale of U.S. F-35 fighter jets to Turkey, stating it could pose a direct military threat to Israel and destabilize the region.

According to Israel’s *Maariv* newspaper, the official emphasized that Israel “will take necessary measures to block such intentions,” accusing Ankara of aiming to restore Ottoman-era influence, including symbolic claims over Jerusalem.

He warned that Turkey might use the advanced F-35s in aggressive military operations, particularly targeting Israel. Although he described a potential armed conflict with Turkey as "unlikely," he admitted the risk is "growing."

The official also revealed that Israel has already taken preventative steps to counter Turkish operations in Syria and is prepared to do so again if needed.

He urged the U.S. Congress to block any F-35 deal with Turkey, stressing that lawmakers have both the power and the obligation to act in the interest of regional security.

This statement comes amid reports that the Biden administration is considering an alternative deal involving two squadrons of upgraded F-16 Block 70 fighters equipped with AESA radar and advanced avionics.

Currently, Turkey operates approximately 250–300 F-16 fighter jets, many of which are similar to those in Israeli service. Some older "Phantom" jets in Turkey’s arsenal were previously upgraded in cooperation with Israel.

Turkey was originally a partner in the F-35 development program but was expelled after purchasing the Russian-made S-400 missile defense system, raising concerns about sensitive data leaks to Moscow.
