Tehran, [Date] – The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has affirmed its steadfast commitment to a good-neighbor policy towards the State of Qatar and other neighboring countries, according to statements made by ministry spokesperson, Ismail Baghaei. These assurances come amidst recent regional tensions and reactions to military attacks.
Baghaei stated that Tehran is determined "not to let American-Israeli aggressions and malicious policies against Iran sow discord between us and the countries of the region." He stressed that recent Iranian military strikes on the U.S. "Al Udeid" military base in Qatar were purely an act of self-defense, carried out under the United Nations Charter. Baghaei clarified that these strikes had no connection to Qatar, emphasizing the "excellent and deeply rooted" relations between the two countries.
Responsibility for War's Consequences and Betrayal of Diplomacy
In a related context, Baghaei had previously stated that Washington must bear responsibility for the consequences of war following the U.S. military attack on three nuclear facilities in Iran. Speaking to CNN, Baghaei indicated that Tehran witnessed a "betrayal of diplomacy" by the Donald Trump administration.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson asserted that the Trump administration cannot speak of diplomacy while it has itself betrayed it. He concluded his remarks by saying: "No one knows what will happen in the future, but what is certain is that the responsibility for the consequences of this war lies with the United States and the Zionist entity."
The Iranian diplomat refrained from disclosing details on how Iran would respond to the U.S. military attack on its nuclear sites early Sunday, but he reiterated Tehran's right to exercise its right to self-defense.
