**Khartoum –** The Sudanese government affirmed on Thursday its commitment to transparency and seriousness in addressing U.S. allegations of chemical weapons use, revealing that it has initiated technical communication channels with the United States to help avoid further sanctions.
In an official statement, Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it participated in the **109th Executive Council session of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW)** in The Hague and presented its position on what it described as "baseless U.S. accusations."
On **June 27**, new U.S. sanctions against Sudan came into effect following allegations by the U.S. State Department that **chemical weapons** were used by the Sudanese military during its conflict with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in 2024.
The sanctions include **export restrictions** and limitations on Sudan’s access to U.S. government credit lines.
The ministry added that the OPCW council reviewed the U.S. allegations as part of its agenda, and noted that Sudan has **already begun practical measures** to address the claims, emphasizing the need to examine the information underpinning the accusations.
Sudanese officials said that Washington has expressed readiness to provide relevant data and evidence soon. Khartoum urged the OPCW council to allow the technical track to proceed in a spirit of **constructive cooperation**.
Sudan reiterated its full commitment to the **Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC)** and pledged to cooperate with the OPCW and all member states to support global efforts aimed at preventing the use and spread of such weapons.
On **May 29**, Sudan’s transitional Sovereignty Council leader **General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan** established a national committee to investigate the allegations, after rejecting the U.S. claims as “false and unfounded.”
The allegations come amid an ongoing war between the **Sudanese Armed Forces** and the **RSF** since **April 2023**, a conflict that has led to more than **20,000 deaths**, with **U.S. academic sources estimating up to 130,000 fatalities** and the **displacement of nearly 15 million people**, according to UN and local data.
