In a post on Truth Social, Trump said: "Tell Democratic Senator Chris Coons that I’m not giving Iran anything, unlike Obama who handed them billions under the disastrous nuclear deal (JCPOA), which would have expired by now anyway!"
He added: "I’m not even talking to them, ever since we completely destroyed their nuclear facilities."
Trump withdrew from the JCPOA in 2018, calling it a "catastrophic deal" that allowed Tehran to continue developing nuclear capabilities under legal cover.
Since then, Trump’s administration adopted a "maximum pressure" policy on Iran, imposing tough sanctions, launching cyberattacks, and ordering the assassination of Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani in early 2020.
On June 21–22, 2025, the U.S. carried out major air and naval strikes on three key nuclear sites in Iran (Fordow, Natanz, Isfahan), using bunker-buster bombs and Tomahawk missiles.
Trump declared the operation, dubbed "Operation Midnight Hammer," a complete success that eradicated Iran’s nuclear program.
However, preliminary reports from the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) suggested otherwise, stating the facilities may have only been partially damaged, and that critical equipment and possibly enriched uranium were moved prior to the strikes.
